Compliance Officer Helane Morrison Reaches Incredible Professional Heights

by WoH .

Helane Morrison was recently featured in an article by Project Eve, which highlights her professional achievements and impressive road to success. Morrison currently serves as the Managing Director, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Hall Capital Partners LLC as well as one of Hall Capital Partners executive committee members. Morrison has received well-deserved accolades for her ability to maintain her integrity and high ethical standards in an industry that has left much to be desired in terms of ethical conduct.

As a woman in an industry long dominated by men, Morrison is especially inspiring to me. She is simply never deterred by the size of the obstacle or hard work required to achieve. Morrison began her career as a journalist B.S. in Journalism from Northwestern University. Morrison quickly earned a reputation for asking the tough questions and eliciting candid answers. She then earned her law degree from the University of California Berkeley School of Law.

Right out of the gate in her legal career, Morrison made her mark by clerking for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit. And then, adding yet another feather in her professional cap, Morrison clerked for Supreme Court Justice Harry A. Blackmun. When Morrison made her move into the private sector, she focused her law practice on business litigation and the defense of private securities. After gaining valuable experience in private practice, Morrison went on to work at the San Francisco office of US Securities and Exchange (SEC), where she fought diligently to protect the public and private corporations against fraud and shady investment practices. During Morrison’s time at the SEC, she accumulated a list of accomplishments a mile long. Her proven ability and determination earned her the position of Head of Commission and Regional Director. With that position, Morrison earned a spot in the history books as the first woman to obtain that high stature at the SEC.

Part of what makes Morrison such a shining example to me and many other women is that not only did she break through barriers and reach new levels of successes, but once Morrison reached those positions, she continued to thrive and pave the way for other driven women to follow in her foot steps. Morrison certainly has big shoes to fill, but thanks to her trail blazing career (Bloomberg), more women will now have the opportunity to work for the same level of professional achievement.
